The author trifecta all in one week…
3 chapters…

Two days ago, I officially started writing my third book. An exciting day! New notebook, coloured pens, unlimited possibility. Fortunately, I ease into it. We don’t start at chapter 01, we begin with backstory. Who is this protagonist? What do they want? And what do they really need? I feel like my two main characters are ready and waiting for me. In fact, I can see them, leaning up against each other, looking over at me with that teen indifference, saying ‘Yep, when you’re ready, Jodie. Been waiting a while. But, whatever’. Let’s go!

Last Friday, my second book arrived back from the developmental editor. Oh, I love this stage. The developmental editor assesses the overall story structure and narrative tension. Does it work as a story? Has the reader been taken on a journey? Is there a payoff? Happily, I can report that the book is on track. No major re-writes, just some sprinkling here and there and restructuring a few conversations in critical scenes. Woo hoo! This is great news. I’m excited to refine and ready this book for the next editing stage, copy editing, where we go line by line and perfect.

And in two days time, this weekend, I’ve got some significant media coverage coming out about my author journey and my first book, Never, Not Ever. This, again, is super exciting! Every writer wants their book to find its readers so media, social media, and most importantly, word of mouth are invaluable. There you have it, the author trifecta, coinciding, converging, uniting over this week: 1. Writing; 2. Editing; and 3. Promoting.
3 endnotes…
In Never, Not Ever there’s a moment where the characters reference the elegance of the metric measurement system. It’s a nod to my husband who, yes, loves the elegance of the metric system. Which is why it’s not surprising that he discovered this very funny Saturday Night Live sketch where they mock the absurdity of the US imperial system. Very funny!
I’m a cat lady, for sure. Perhaps that’s why I love Nicole Piar’s illustrations of magical, spiritual kitties. I own several of them and her calendar and her oracle decks. She’s now launching a new creation - the Wander Kittens, two mini oracle decks on Kickstarter. I’ve already put in my order!
This weekend, I’m also doing The Bloody Long Walk, walking 35kms. Why? Because I’ve wanted to do a long walking event like this for awhile, I talked a couple of friends into doing it with me, and we’re raising funds for the Mito Foundation who are trying to cure mitochondrial disease. If you’d like to support the cause, you can here. And if you’ve got any tips for surviving such an event, let me know by replying to this email or sharing in the comments!
Until next time, love to you and yours!
