This week…
First chapters
Getting over uncertainty - the wrong way!
Something I’ve never done before
Fairy-winged toads and cat-birds?
I’ve been typing up the hand written chapters from Book 03 that I wrote at the end of last year. While I type, I’ve been refining with one key objective: I need to find the story’s voice. Who is this character? How do they speak? What do they say/not say? What do they notice/not notice?
It sets the tone for the entire story. Without the right voice, it’s simply a series of events without much significance. But with voice, we have someone we’re travelling with and who we can care about. Dear readers, this week, I think I’ve found it! Now the real writing begins.
Oh, it’s been a week. Parts of me have gotten into a right frenzy. Why isn’t this thing happening? The one we really, really, really want to happen. What are we supposed to do now? We have to do something! But what?
Can you hear it? The clamouring to replace uncertainty with activity? If we just do lots of things, whether they help or not, at least we’ll be trying to shift things in our favour. And then, if that doesn’t work, we can always do more - and more and more!
I’ve had to catch myself, big time. We don’t do over-activity anymore. We’re okay with uncertainty. We’re here in the becoming. And that doesn’t always amount to doing. But gee, it’s hard sometimes.
Do you know how to sell a truck load of books? Me, neither. And traditional publishers don’t really know either. No one does. There’s no science, only art, and maybe some good fortune. So what have I been doing to sell more books? A little bit of everything!
And this week, I’m trying something I’ve never done before. It’s a group giveaway! A romance book fair. You can enter the raffle to win 10 print books and 2 audio books, including contemporary, historical, and small town romances - and my beautiful book! Check out all the titles here (and in the graphic below). Either enter to win or browse some new books and authors.
Here’s the first of the Kickstarter campaigns I’ll share over the coming weeks (in the lead up to my own Kickstarter campaign). Sacred is a cozy young adult portal fantasy series full of talking animals, elemental magic, and wholesome vibes centered around found family and friendship...and there's flying, fairy-winged toads 🐸 and cat-birds 🐱 Check out the campaign here.
I have this fantasy that one day I’ll be crafty. I’ll spend idle afternoons crafting away while listening to podcasts or music and my creations will turn out beautifully. Problem is, I’m not that patient so I’m not sure it’s ever going to happen. But if it does, my first stop will be Rel’s Loom Fabrics. She’s got creative kits, all sorts of beautiful fabrics and lots of inspiration. Definitely worth a look!
Want a quality movie to watch this weekend? I’ve got you. 20th Century Women. It’s how to raise a boy 1979 style. Quirky. Poignant. Highly watchable. With outstanding performances.
Until next time, love to you and yours,
